Marriage and Divorce makes the Body "stretchy"

A study states, both marriage and divorce are equally could have an impact on a drastic weight gain, especially after the age of 30.
The results of research involving more than 10,000 people in 1986 to 2008 shows, both men and women are equally at risk of weight gain after the initial two years of married or divorced. But there is a clear difference seen between men and women in terms of waist size, especially in those whose marriage ended traumatic.
Researchers from Ohio State University used data from national surveys in which men and women were weighed every year to see how many pounds of weight they gained or lost within two years after marriage or divorce.
The result, after the age is above 30 years, it appears there was little change in weight between men and women. But afterwards, the chance of weight gain after marriage or divorce continued to rise until age 50.
The study concluded, both men and women, are more likely to gain weight within two years after a divorce or marriage in the appeal of those who never married.
"Clearly, the effects of marital transitions on changes in body weight differ by sex. Divorce for men have an impact on weight gain. While marriage for women will have an impact on weight gain may be quite large and could pose health risks," said Dmitry Tumin, researchers led the study.
Research published in the American Sociological Association annual meeting in Las Vegas, the U.S. does not mention the reason why pre waist circumference and women respond differently to marriage and divorce.
But Prof. Zhenchao Qian, one of the researchers, said: "Married women have a role (job) is greater at home than men, and they may have little time to exercise and stay fit than unmarried women."
"On the other hand, research shows that married men receive health benefits from marriage. And they will lose those benefits when we have to divorce, which affects the increase of their weight," he added.
